On 19 January 2013 I visited Dave and Karen Gillespie at their Spruce Creek Fly In home near Port Orange, Florida.

The day kicked off with a tour of the private fly in community that boasts over 1,300 homes and 700 hangars. Spruce Creek originated as a WWII Navy Airfield and is equipped with a 4,000ft. lighted runway that can accommodate aircraft from WWI replicas to the latest executive jets. I was lucky to plan my visit on the annual Spruce Creek Community Bonfire day. Events included the Spruce Creek Gaggle Flight Team, great food, entertainment and the largest bonfire I have ever attended.
