On August 26th, 2011 I was approved for a media press flight at the Atlantic Canada International Airshow in Summerside, PEI. |
My wife and I wanted to document the event so below are step-by-step photos of the process. |
On the 25th I met with the Snowbirds Public Affairs Officer Marc Valesco for a physical and seat check. Marc was instrumental in approving my flight and preparing me for the day. |
First up was a meeting with Snowbird Flight Surgeon Maj. Jane Cruchley |
Now cleared to fly with the team I was introduced to Cpl. Winston Rose who would outfit me with the necessary equipment for the flight. |
Flight suit and gloves |
Inflatable life jacket was required since we would be flying over water. |
I’m joined by Rick Reeves. Winston teaches us about the parachute we will be wearing. |
Adjustments are made for a perfect fit. |
Next came the helmet and oxygen mask. |
We then met Capt. Brett Parker, Snowbird 5 (Second Line Astern) who would instruct us on our seat and emergency checks. |
Brett explains how the yellow lanyard is attached to a personal survival kit on my seat. In the event I had to eject I would need to release the kit so it would dangle below me and not cause personal damage when I landed. |
Next up was ejection seat training. Seen on the floor is the arming pin for the seat. In the Tutor I will have to remove the pin after engine start and attach it to dash in a manor so the ground technician can see it during the engine start check. |

Media personality Julia Kilbride MacDougall and Royal Canadian Air Cadet Instructor Sally Cng will join Rick and I on the media flight. |
And more signatures. |
After three hours of training and equipment checks we headed for home to try and get some rest before our once in a lifetime experience. |
