For 2017 the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum temporarily marked their flying Avro Lancaster FM213 bomber as KB700, the first Canadian built Avro Lancaster. |

Since 1988, the CWHM have operated Lancaster FM-213 as the Mynarski Memorial Lancaster dedicated to the memory of P/O Andrew Mynarski who was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross when he lost his life while trying to save the trapped tail-gunner on KB726 when it was shot down by a German night fighter on 13 June 1944. The past few years the CWHM have painted the port side of FM213 to represent different Lancasters that Canadians flew with No. 6 Group Bomber Command during World War Two. For Canada 150, the CWHM chose to represent Lancaster KB700, the first Lancaster to be built in Canada by Victory Aircraft at Malton, Ontario. |

Victory Aircraft produced 430 Lancaster Xs and KB700 named the “Ruhr Express” was the first aircraft off the assembly line. On 1 August 1943 KB700 was successfully test flown with a christening ceremony on 6 August. Flown by S/L Reg Lane DSO DFC, KB700 arrived in Great Britain on 15 September 1943 and flew its first raid on 22 November with No. 405 Squadron. On it’s 49th mission, 2 January, 1945, one mission short of KB700 returning to Canada the aircraft crash-landed, caught fire and was totally destroyed. The plan was to have KB700 return to Canada as a memorial to all Canadians who built, maintained and flew Lancasters during WWII. |
