We visited Oscoda–Wurtsmith Airport in Michigan on 15 May 2016 to document the many airliners and freighters that are stored at the airport and being worked on by Kalitta Air. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oscoda–Wurtsmith Airport is the decommissioned USAF Wurtsmith Air Force Base which housed nuclear armed B-52 Stratofortress bombers during the Cold War as well as several air refueling squadrons. Oscoda–Wurtsmith Airport became a public airport in 1993. It is primarily a cargo and light general aviation airport. |

Kalitta Air provies an FAA certified 145 Repair Station and offers heavy maintenance, line maintenance, parts sales and service, component repair and overhaul, and engineering services. |

The airport is also home to the Wurtsmith Air Museum. Unfortunately, the museum was closed and opens in late May. |
