After receiving an Air Cadet Scholership, Gord began flying in 1958. He joined the RCAF in 1960 and flew the Chipmunk, Harvard and T-33 Silver Star, F-86 Sabre and CF-104 Starfighter. Gord was a nuclear strike pilot on the CF-104 for two years flying with 442 Squadron out of Baden Baden, Germany. Leaving the RCAF he joined Air Canada in 1964 where he flew for 36 years.

With a passion for aerobatics he built a Steen Skybolt in 1975 and a Pitts Special S-1 in 1978 which he flew at the World Aerobatic Championships in 1980. Gord, with the help of friends at the Aeronautical Establishment at the National Research Council in Ottawa Ontario gained notoriety when he designed, tested and built the “Ultimate Wing” for the Pitts S-1 giving the aircraft twice the roll rate. Giving the petit aerobatic biplane an incredibly fast roll rate. Gord founded the Ultimate Aircraft Corporation who designed and built a series of Ultimate aerobatic aircraft in the 1980s.

Now 75 years old, Gord still performs at airshows across North America in his 435HP YAK50 sn.001. He is seen here over Owen Sound on 6 August 2017
