CHATSPRING2016

A definite sign of spring in Southern Ontario is when the Canadian Harvard Aerobatic Team takes to the skies to practice their airshow routine. Based out of Woodstock Airport the team has relocated to Tillsonburg Airport (CYTB) for March and April to rehearse their 2016 airshow routine in advance of their first scheduled airshow at Louisville, Kentucky on 23 April.

New for 2016 will be a closing pass simulating the famous RCAF Goldilocks “Crazy Formation” where the four Harvards half lower their landing gear and fly a cross-controlled formation, looking very hap-hazard. With the RCAF Snowbirds and CF-18 Hornet Demonstration Team honouring the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan this year the team decided to include this new manoeuvre as their grand finale. The Goldilocks, flying Harvard trainers, was an aerobatic display team formed at Moose Jaw by the RCAF in 1962 as a parody of the Golden Hawks Aerobatic Team. The team often stated the “crazy formation” was their depiction of how their students flew formation. The Goldilocks disbanded in 1964 with the introduction of the Canadair Tutor as the RCAF’s primary trainer.

In Ontario, CHAT is confirmed to be performing at Canadian Forces Base Borden in June, Brantford Airshow in August and Airshow London in September. The team will also make several US appearances that will include their first performance at Oshkosh.
